After President Donald Trump announced that a new “framework” for Greenland had been agreed with the secretary general of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Marc Rhutte, The NATO chief said on Fox News’ “Special Report with Bret Baier” that the U.S. takeover of Greenland from Denmark was not discussed during meetings between him and President Donald Trump in Switzerland at the World Economic Forum.
“This issue has not come up again in my conversations with Mr. President. He is very focused on what we need to do to ensure that this huge Arctic region, where changes are taking place right now, where the Chinese and the Russians are increasingly active, how we can protect it,” Rhutte said when asked about the details of the case. the “frame” reported this was agreed upon and this, according to Trump, resulted in his decision not to impose certain tariffs that were set to take effect on February 1.

Trump announced the new “framework” regarding Greenland in a post on his social media site Truth Social on Wednesday afternoon, while he was at the World Economic Forum this week.
“Based on a very productive meeting I had with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, we established the framework for a future agreement regarding Greenland and, indeed, the entire Arctic region,” the president wrote. “Based on this understanding, I will not impose the tariffs that were to come into effect on February 1. Additional discussions are underway regarding the Golden dome regarding Greenland. More information will be available as discussions progress.”
Trump noted that Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and special envoy Steve Witkoff will lead “the negotiations” and report directly to him.

During the exclusive interview with Fox News, Rhutte called Trump “totally right” about the need to strengthen security in the country. the arctic region, noting that the risk of Russia or China becoming a threat in this region increases every day. The NATO secretary general also praised Trump’s leadership in getting other NATO countries to spend more money on the alliance’s defense.
“I will tell you this evening on this show, it is he who brought all of Europe and Canada to these famous 5%,” insisted Rhutte. “What is crucial for us is to equalize our spending, but also to protect ourselves. And it is on this framework that you see in his message that we are going to work.”
Rhutte highlighted the increased volatility between NATO-aligned countries Russia and China during his interview with Fox News Wednesday evening, which Rhutte said underscores the need to strengthen security in the Arctic region.

During the interview, Baier asked if Rhutte thought other countries were treating Russians and Chinese differently than they had in the past.

“It’s not my place to comment on what individual allies are doing in terms of relations with China,” Rhutte responded. “I think collectively, as NATO, we have a position. The position is that we should not be naive. I can say that you will miss these huge investments that the Chinese are making in the military. They are not there to hold parades in Beijing, and the Russian military is not there to hold parades in Moscow. They are there to be used.”
