Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei acknowledged that thousands of people had been killed in anti-government protests over the past two weeks, but blamed the death toll on the United States. He also called President Donald Trump a criminal for supporting the protests, which were countered by tens of thousands of pro-government demonstrators. The US-based Human Rights Activists news agency said it had verified 3,090 deaths, including 2,885 protesters, and more than 22,000 arrests. CBC News speaks with exiled Iranian journalist and activist Masih Alinejad about the protests.
