It was a night to remember for the Liverpool defender.
Ibrahima Konate was left speechless after scoring on his return to Liverpool after the death of his father as the Reds came from behind to beat Newcastle United 4-1.
Liverpool moved up to fifth place in the table. Premier League table with an ultimately comfortable victory, although they were second for much of the first half and fell behind when Anthony Gordon gave Newcastle a 36th minute lead.
However, two goals in the space of as many minutes from Hugo Ekitike shook up the game before half-time.
Florian Wirtz then made it 3-1, but the biggest joy of the evening at Anfield came when Konate tapped in after Nick Pope had fumbled a late Liverpool corner into his path.
Konaté understandably couldn’t contain his emotions as he celebrated his goal and, speaking to TNT Sports after the match, he reflected on a night he will surely remember forever.
“Of course I am very happy,” Konate said.
“I don’t have words to describe how I feel right now because these last two weeks have been a very difficult time for me and my family, but it’s part of life. It’s hard to accept this and we have no choice.
“I know the team had some injured players, and the manager on the call told me to take my time and not have to rush.
“With this [injury] In this situation it was important for me to come back and help the team. I did it today with the team at Anfield, the atmosphere was incredible today, and that’s what we need until the end of the season.
